Four Blogs!

Blog 1: Change is bad.

I’m not sure what happened, but I seem to be short rubbermaid/ziploc/glad containers. I had bought a bunch for salads for work but I’m finding that they disappear – like the sock in the dryer phenomenon – although my socks have always been fine. Perhaps this is due to the sock monster taking my ziploc containers.

I figured I’d pick up more. No problem.

Problem. They don’t seem to make them in the same and/or shape of the ones I already have. So now I have more mismatched containers. ARG!

Those of you who know me, know I’m really annoyed by this. Sigh.

Blog 2: Elvis Festival!

On Saturday, Co-Worker A and I went to Collingwood for their annual Elvis Festival. It was very random and very fun. There were many Elvises – Old Elvis, Young Elvis, Jumpsuit Elvis. There was a bald Elvis. One Elvis didn’t look anything like Elvis – he had white hair and was wearing a normal suit – like a lounge singer would wear.

Sadly, I had forgotten my camera. Happily, RY let me borrow hers. Sadly, it was set to take pictures in black and white. I’ve attached a photo of Co-Worker A and I with one of the many Elvises. In black and white. Maybe you can print it and colour it yourself.

Blog 3: London Pride Parade.

We twirled in the London Pride Parade again. It was much the same as last year – proud gays and self-righteous protestors. The main difference this year was regarding the restroom facilities in the staging area.

Last year, while we were setting up, we were in a parking lot behind a gay club. The owners of the gay club let us use their restrooms. This year, we were in the same parking lot, but the gay club was closed. RY and I wandered from door to door, trying to get in and not succeeding. Finally, we were pointed to the back door of the building attached to the club.

The door was opened and we entered. Inside was a small vestibule with a ticket window on one side and a door on the other. The ticket window was empty, the door was locked. We rang the button and a nice gentleman appeared. When he saw us, he looked a little startled.

"We’re from the parade group – Can we use your restrooms?" I asked.

"Um…. "

"Last year, we used the restrooms next door but they were locked today," I added hopefully.

"I’ll go see if I can get you in next door," he said and left.

When he returned he said, "I’ll let you use our bathrooms if you promise not to be offended."

We both agreed to not be offended. It really takes a lot to offend us.

We were buzzed in. Apparently, it was a gentleman’s spa and there were maybe four guys at the bar (keep in mind it was noon) and one was sitting there in his underwear. We were so totally NOT offended. In fact, it was kind of cool.

We entered the restroom where there was one stall and two urinals. We took turns using the stall.

While I was washing my hands, one of the guys in the bar yelled, "Hey girls – what’s taking you so long?"

I yelled back, "you can come in if you promise not to be offended."

Hee hee. Two can play at that game. 🙂

Blog 4: Peeing in a cup.

I had to pee in a cup today. Apparently I’m old enough to have to do a urinalysis and fasting blood tests with my annual checkup.

The nurse gave me the key to the washroom (not in the lab but down the hall by the elevators), a pee cup AND a test tube. I had to pee in the cup and then transfer some, but not all, of my pee from the cup to the test tube. That’s much more pee handling than I normally like to do. But in true virgo fashion, I did an excellent job. Very neat and tidy.

And I was very pleased with my urine colour. It was very pretty – not too yellow.

Then I walked it back to the lab and put it in the urine sample box. Unfortunately, I was the first one tested that day so my pee was alone in the box. I like to see the other samples and compare them to mine. I like to feel urine superiority.

I stand corrected.

I’ve been informed that there weren’t any ‘sparkles’ in the lotion, it was ‘shimmer’. So I did not sparkle on Sunday, I shimmered.

My mistake.

Hmmm…

Anyone who has dated me or who knows me very well knows that I am a complete write-off on Friday nights. My work week takes so much out of me that all I want to do on Friday night is relax and go to bed early.

Last Friday, I showed up at RY’s place, ready to relax and crash as usual. RY decided that she wanted me to stay up so she gave me a Red Bull (the energy drink). I cannot drink ANY caffeine after 1pm or I’ll have trouble sleeping so I did not want a Red Bull. She finally convinced me to have a bit. I had maybe 1/4 of a can. Then we stuck a DVD in and settled in to watch. I will mention here that the DVD choice was RY’s.

About 20 minutes into the movie, RY fell asleep. Normally, this wouldn’t be a bad thing, but we were lying on the couch and she was lying on top of me. I could not move, nor could I reach the remote control. So I watched the entire movie, wide awake. This is so not fair.

The universe is trying to make me girly.

I almost forgot: Sunday morning… er… afternoon… I was showering at RY’s parents’ place in her father’s bathroom. I used his shampoo because I hadn’t brought mine. And then after the shower, I noticed a container of skin cream, which I also hadn’t brought, so I used that too. I figured it was a men’s bathroom and I should be safe.

Wrong.

About an hour later, I notice my skin is all sparkly. Apparently that was RY’s lotion. It has sparkles. I sparkled all day. That’s so wrong.

Weekend summary.

On Saturday morning, I went to boxing for the first time in about two months. It’s hard to get there for a summer weekend day. I’ve been busy. Turns out, the instructor was busy, so it was cancelled. I did errands instead.

Saturday night, RY and I went to her parents’ place in Cambridge. It was her mother’s birthday so her dad took us all to the Mohawk racetrack for a buffet and some betting. Both RY and I are very bad at picking horses. Her dad won the Exactor in the first race. In the 6th race, RY picked a horse for her and a horse for me. Mine didn’t even finish. Some kind of equipment problem. We decided to leave after the 7th race. I bet $2 on Trade Editor and won $6.10 – woo! I’m a winner.

Then we went to a gay bar in Cambridge (just RY and I, not her parents) and met some friends there. RY then brought me a lot of tequila shooters. We had a grand old time. RY is a bad influence on me.

Sunday was pretty good. We got up at noon to the smell of RY’s mom cooking chicken. I felt pretty good too! A lot better than I did after RY fed me a bottle of red wine last weekend. Maybe it’s because this time, I drank in the city where there are fewer bugs to bite me.

Then we went to the Jazz fest in Waterloo and for dinner. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and there was free parking. What more could you ever ask for?

I hope I have many more weekends like this, but without the heavy drinking. 🙂

I’m booking my chiropractor now.

Stella is moving again. The last time she moved was about 4 years ago when she moved from Guelph to Toronto. That involved four of us packing all her stuff in a big truck, me driving it to Toronto, and three of us (Stella, me and some guy off the street looking to make $40) unpacking all her stuff. Although, admittedly, her friend Jay and I decided she didn’t need all her stuff so we left some on the curb for the Guelph hippies to pick up. That made the move a little easier.

On Thursday, I went to Stella’s to help her pack for this move. Her place was in a typical state of pre-move chaos. Typical for a Scorpio – not a Virgo. And it was exactly at that moment that I had a flashback to last summer when I helped move the DS twice in four months. If you read those blogs, you’ll remember I had severe back pain until Christmas and it took my chiro, my physiotherapist and an osteopath to fix things.

I’m thinking it’s almost worth the $400 to hire a mover to save me the pain of helping with another femme move…

Algonquin Park long weekend.

July 7, 2008 Leave a comment

This past weekend, RY and I went to Algonquin Park and stayed at the  Blue Spruce Inn . Click that link and look at the "Greenwoods" cottage. It has a hottub, satellite tv, fireplace, a/c and a really large bathroom. The bathroom even has a bidet. You know it’s fancy when there’s a bidet. (I didn’t use it though because quite frankly, they scare me.) We went up on Saturday and came back to Toronto on Monday.

Saturday night, RY decides that she’s never seen me drunk so she starts plying me with wine. Really good, expensive wine. She starts drinking Smirnoff Ice.. well, she didn’t ‘start’ so much as ‘continue’. Sunday morning, the place was a mess (relatively speaking as we both are neat freaks, and believe it or not – she’s more of a neat freak than I am), my teeth were wine coloured and there were actually moments that she says happened that I don’t remember happening. Luckily, there are also moments that I say happened, that she doesn’t remember so I wasn’t the only one who was badly behaved. And because I was drinking the expensive wine and she was drinking vodka coolers, I think I got the best of that deal. AND when we went to the local LCBO to get another bottle of wine for RY to drink with dinner on Sunday night (I was not ready for more wine and will not likely be again until next year), they didn’t have good wine – only cheap wine. So RY had to drink cheap wine Sunday night. That will teach her for deliberately getting me drunk.

Aside from the drunken debauchery night, we went on a couple of hikes, paddle boating and of course, RY did some tanning. She wanted me to sit out in the sun with her while she tanned so I guess technically, I was tanning too. But while I was tanning, I was being attacked by a swarm of nasty bugs. There were points where RY was slapping me on the neck and killing multiple bugs. I didn’t realize that they weren’t just flying around me, they were biting me. Nasty critters. And to add insult to injury, they were only attacking me, not RY. It’s like she planted me there as the decoy feeding ground.

Sunday morning, I was covered in bug bites that itched like crazy and had a bit of green in them. In addition to this, I had a lump the size of a pea on my neck. I thought maybe I got a knot in the muscle. RY and I took turns trying to massage it out. It did not massage out. It got bigger on Monday.

We went to the Walk In Clinic in Guelph and it turns out it’s a lymph node. The doctor figures it’s from the bug bites. Regardless, I’m a blotchy, itchy mess.

But I’m still ready for my next vacation. Bring it!
